Pope's Tavern Archaeological Club: Artifact Identification Workshop

The Pope’s Tavern Archaeology Club will host an artifact identification workshop on Thursday, January 19th, 2023, from 6:00pm -7:30pm at Pope’s Tavern Museum, 203 Hermitage Drive, Florence, AL. The Pope’s Tavern Archaeology Club is an organization managed and supported by Pope’s Tavern Museum and dedicated to advancing archaeological education through community-based projects and public history while encouraging responsible and ethical practices of archaeology in the community. The club aims to be an organization where members can learn from each other through a common interest in the community’s past, through hands-on archaeology opportunities, public history projects, workshops, field trips, and discussions. Members under 12 must be accompanied by an adult during club meetings and activities.

The workshop will be hosted by Ben Hoksbergen, cultural resource manager at Redstone Arsenal. Ben will help to identify artifacts found at Pope’s Tavern, providing context about age, material, and style of historic artifacts. This workshop is for historic artifacts only.
